Physical to Virtual Migration (P2V)

Physical to Virtual Migration

In this blogpost , let's take a look at how to do P2V (i.e.) Physical to Virtual Migration. To do this, you'd be using your very own OS that you have installed on your system.

Now, download Disk2VHD from SysInternals website. I've added a hyperlink too,  so you don't have to be searching around. Disk2VHD

It'd be downloaded as a .zip file to your computer. Extract that and open the "disk2vhd" application in the extracted folder.

Now, in this exercise, I'd be cloning the OS drive on which, as you might have guessed it, the OS is installed on this logical volume.

Then, tick the box corresponding to the C: drive and click the "Create" button beneath to begin the cloning process.

(P.S I'll also be choosing that random partition which of SYSTEM type in here)

Wait for some time till' you see this message that the disk was exported successfully.

Now open VirtualBox and click on "New" icon.

Then, choose the option "Use an existing virtual hard disk file".

Then, your explorer window would pop up asking you to choose the VHD file. I've saved my VHD file in drive E:\, so gonna use that.

Finally, there you go. Your Physical to Virtual migration (P2V) migration has been successful. :D
