My First Virtual Machine

Before diving into cloud, you gotta experience virtual machines and stuff first hand on your local machine. So to do that,

First, we are gonna install a Type 2 Hypervisor such as VMWare Workstation Player, VMWare Workstation or the very famous one Oracle VirtualBox. In our case, we are gonna use the latter one.

Once you have downloaded the installer file and installed it on your machine, you'd find yourself on the dashboard which would look something like this

From here, click on New by which you are gonna create a new virtual machine

(P.S gonna use VM further coz' typing "virtual machine" again and again can make this post weird!)

Then, it shows you the VM creation window. Its pretty self-explanatory where you'd give your VM a name, set the memory size and etc.

Now, it asks you to choose the type of virtual hard drive that you are gonna use and its size.

Virtual Hard disk Types --> Learn about the types here!

You have created your empty VM successfully!

Now, you need a guest OS for the machine, right?

So, you'd choose the installer OS image that you've downloaded previously. If you haven't, download it before you start creating a VM.

In my case, I'm using a Lubuntu 16.04 OS image.

After this, just follow the on-screen instructions of your OS installer,

Voila! You have successfully created your first virtual machine.
