Migrating a VM to another VM environment

This is one important thing you gotta know coz' you would end up doing many times in whatever cloud environment you go for.

So, first let's learn how to do Virtual-2-Virtual migration on a hypervisor running on your local machine.

As I said in the previous post, I'm going with Oracle VirtualBox. You can use that for your needs too.

First off , select the VM that you wanna export and Right Click on it. Then choose the Export to OCI option.

Then, choose the location where you wanna export the VM to. Remember, the VM would be as a OVA (Open Virtualization Appliance) and not as a VMDK or any other virtual hard disk file.
If you know wanna more about OVA and OVF, follow the below link.

This step is optional where you can type in the description, product URL and stuff for the VM that you are gonna export and then click on "Export"

Wait til' the VM export process completes!

Now, lets try importing the VM that we've exported as a OVA into another hypervisor that I've installed on my computer which is VMWare Workstation 14 Player.

Here, click on the "Open Virtual Machine" option.
.. and I choose the Lubuntu.ova that I've exported to E:/ drive.
Then I give the VM a name and the path to save the virtual hard disk files.

Finally, click on "Import" and you'd find your OVA file imported as a VM in no time.

There you go! ; D
